I spent a lot of time researching commercial cat foods and what I found is shocking to say the least.  What I discovered is that most of the food you find in the supermarkets, groceries, and pet food stores are not worthy of your precious pet. 

And don't think that because you're paying more for a namebrand cat food that you're buying food that's healthy and nutritionally sound.

It's important that you realize that commercial cat food is potentially dangerous, and there are many experts that back this up as well. Because of the poisons in cat food and the absence of the right nutrition in the food, vets and cat experts agree that disease and early death has become more and more common among cats today.

More vets and experts are coming forward about the scandal that is surrounding cat foods. In fact, one author and expert cat care specialist, Ann M. Martin has said that most cat foods that you can purchase commercially are totally garbage.

Many famous authors such as Ann M. Martin, Joan Weiskopf, Liz Palika, Catherine M. O'Driscoll and more have stated that the poor nutrition of cat food actually can lead to disease, since there are so few nutrients in the food, which can make cats overly sensitive to their environment.

Basically cats end up being programmed to become extinct.

For example, some of the commercial cat foods out there actually end up keeping the adrenal glands from acting as they should and producing enough cortisol, which is very important for a cat's health and their ability to fight off diseases as well.

These authors and most vets feel that companies that claim that their cat foods are healthy are just pushing false information. While many of the cat foods out there claim that they are balanced and offer complete nutrition for cats, the tests that are often used ignore some of the nutritional issues that are the most important. You see, cats need many nutrients, and just making sure that the food contains a few of them doesn't make sure that the food is nutritionally complete.

Even if you think that you are purchasing foods that are free of preservatives and chemicals, more than likely, you're not. Many foods use this labeling, but it is often nothing more than a lie. Almost any veterinarian will tell you that many pet foods advertised as preservative-free do, in fact, contain preservatives…

...manufacturers don't have to list everything that's included in their products.

So, you see, before the food is actually bagged by manufacturers, some of the products have preservatives in them already. So, some of the foods that are labeled to be free of chemicals still have various chemicals and preservatives in them.

Even though you may not see this on many cat food labels, the rendering plants often add ethoxyquin, EQ, in order to preserve the food. It is a very powerful preservative and it can also be very toxic as well.

People who work in these factories that are around this chemical can end up with some of the same side effects of being around agent orange (a chemical weapon!), such as the following:

- diarrhea on a regular basis
- skin lesions that are cancerous
- leukemia
- abnormalities in fetuses
- liver damage
- kidney damage
- loss of hair
- and even blindness

Also, when animals are exposed to it, EQ can cause cancer of the liver, spleen, and stomach, various allergies, and even problems with the immune system.

Ann Martin, who is a well known author on pet care has talked about why foods that have labels that claim they are preservative and chemical free actually have many poisons in them that can be deadly. She notes that usually these animal parts that come to the pet food plant from slaughter houses have been denatured, which means that citronella, cresylic disinfectant, or even crude carbolic acid has been used on the animal parts, which end up going into cat food.

Some authors and journalists out there have discovered this horrible and ugly truth. Ann Martin has discovered that feeding cats animals that have been euthanized is extremely dangerous, but the practice still continues. Because the sodium pentobarbital can go through the heat used in the manufacturing process, it can end up in the food.  Vets, animal advocates, and more have known about the dangers of this problem in the pet foods, but the problem still exsists.

And not only are your cats eating pets that have been euthanized, but they end up eating the bags that the pets are in, their tags, and even their collars if they are wearing one. Many euthanized pets end up at plants every day, and then are put right into containers with their plastic bags, tags, and collars, all to become a meal of meat.
